Meet our members: Hubro Education

Published: 26. July 2018

Hubro Education provides business education through digital business games. We caught up with Emil Johan Oliver, General manager and co-founder, to talk about the company, how students manage virtual companies, ambitions, and challenges for educators.

Can you describe briefly what Hubro Education do?
We make learning-by-doing easy in business education through digital business games.

How does your product work?
We offer several simulations/games where students manage virtual companies. This lets them apply what they’ve learned about in their courses in a virtual setting, giving them a greater understanding of the curriculum.

What do you want to change?
How students learn business. Subjects like management accounting and budgeting are often seen as boring, but in reality they can be super useful! We let the students experience the value of the course content first hand.

Why did you choose edtech?
Because education provides both huge opportunities and is intrinsically giving. Seeing students light up in their “aha” moments is incredibly motivating!

What do you see are the biggest challenges in this market?
I think it’s challenging for many educators to make the shift from “teaching” to “leading the learning process”. That is how we make the best use of students and educators time, but it entirely changes how educators must work.

What is your next big steps or ambitions?
We’re growing internationally. Next up: the secondary education markets in Sweden and Denmark!

In what way has being a member of Oslo Edtech Cluster made a difference for you?
We are a too new members to answer this question.

How many employees do you have?

Which stage do you say your company is at? Growth? Well established?
Early growth
